Toilet repair and plumbing fixture installation

A leaking toilet, a dripping faucet or a sink that needs replacing? Plomberie LaSalle checks the fixture and its connections to establish whether a focused repair can solve the problem or a new installation makes better sense for your property.

We receive service requests across Montréal, the West Island, Laval and the served sectors of the North Shore and South Shore. Give us your address to confirm availability and prepare the visit.

When a fixture leak needs prompt attention

If a supply hose is leaking heavily or a toilet is releasing water onto the floor, stop using the fixture. Close its shutoff valve only if you can reach it safely and it operates without unusual force. Do not force a seized valve. If the water continues, tell us when you call so the required isolation can be assessed.

Stay clear of water near electrical equipment or wiring. If the toilet bowl threatens to overflow, do not flush again. A rising bowl and a tank that keeps refilling suggest different problems. Describe the visible behaviour rather than taking parts apart before the visit.

Repair the fixture and check its connections

01 · TOILETS

Toilet repair starts with the source of the leak

A toilet tank that refills repeatedly may be losing water into the bowl without leaving a puddle. The fill valve, flush mechanism and their adjustments need separate checks. A compatible replacement component may let you keep an otherwise sound toilet instead of replacing the entire fixture at the first sign of trouble.

A leak around the base needs a different assessment. The supply connection, mounting, waste seal, flange or porcelain may be involved. We check when water appears and whether the toilet moves. Avoid tightening the mounting bolts aggressively to stop a leak: extra force does not fix cracked porcelain and can create further damage.

A blocked toilet primarily belongs to our drain and toilet unclogging service. Replacing the fixture does not automatically remove a blockage in the line. If several fixtures drain poorly, mention that before ordering a new toilet so the drainage issue can be assessed.

02 · FAUCETS

Faucet repair or a complete replacement?

For a leaking faucet, we distinguish a drip at the spout from seepage around the handle or a leak below the cabinet. The cartridge, seals or supply hose may be involved, but the model and condition of the faucet body determine the practical repair options. A part sold as universal does not fit every fixture.

Parts availability and access below the sink influence the choice. Before buying a new faucet, check the mounting holes, spacing, spout reach, counter thickness and clearance for the handle. On a pull-out or pull-down model, the hose and weight need room to move freely without catching on storage or plumbing below.

Bath and shower fittings may connect to a valve body concealed inside the wall. New visible trim is not automatically compatible with that body. If access must be opened, we explain the plumbing scope and the finishing work to coordinate rather than describing the job as a simple handle replacement.

03 · SINKS

Sink installation includes more than the basin

A replacement sink needs to match the opening, mounting method and supporting cabinet. Basin depth and outlet position affect the space available for the trap. We also check the waste fitting, overflow where provided and supply connections. Looking at the top of the counter alone cannot establish whether the replacement will connect properly.

For an undermount sink, support and coordination with the countertop are particularly important. A larger basin may require cabinet or countertop work beyond the plumbing connections. Tell us about the accessories you intend to install and keep their technical sheets so responsibilities can be clarified before the visit.

A visible trap leak is different from moisture coming out of the wall or floor. If concealed piping appears to be involved, our water leak repair service can assess that section. A new fixture still needs sound connections; replacing the basin does not repair a damaged pipe behind it.

Check the fit before buying a toilet

Toilet installation begins with actual measurements. The distance from the finished wall to the waste outlet centre, space around the bowl, supply position and door clearance all matter. Bowl shape, seat height and access for cleaning and maintenance should suit the people using the room as well as the room itself.

The flange and floor condition may only become clear after removal. A damaged flange, unstable mounting or deteriorated floor can change the job. We explain what needs correcting before setting the new toilet. A replacement fixture cannot make a defective base sound, and simply adding another seal is not a substitute for checking the support.

What makes repair worthwhile?

A repair makes sense when the failure can be identified, suitable parts remain available and the fixture is structurally sound. Replacement becomes a discussion when porcelain is cracked, a faucet body is damaged, parts are unavailable or a different configuration is needed for the way you use the room.

If water efficiency is a priority, compare model specifications and compatibility with the existing installation. The government guide to toilet leaks explains how internal leakage can remain unnoticed and why replacement parts must suit the mechanism. We do not promise a specific water saving for your building.

From assessment to a working fixture

STEP 01Agree on the result you need

We review the symptoms and your priorities: stop a leak, restore a dependable toilet or replace a fixture during other work. We separate the fixture repair from connection defects and surrounding damage. If you supply the fixture, send its reference before the visit and confirm that the complete product is on site.

STEP 02Confirm access and isolate the water

We check accessible valves, connections and cabinet constraints. A shared water shutdown must be coordinated with the owner, manager or condominium representative. Removing the old fixture can uncover deterioration. Any additional plumbing work is explained so the agreed scope can be clarified before proceeding.

STEP 03Connect, restore water and test

After the work, we check the connections under water supply and during use. That includes filling and flushing the toilet, or operating the faucet and draining the sink. The aim is to verify the repaired function and the connections that were disturbed. Report any new moisture, movement or unusual behaviour after the visit.

What affects the cost of fixture work?

The fixture type, required component, corrosion and working space affect the time involved. Replacing an accessible cartridge is different from reaching a shower valve behind a wall. Replacing shutoff valves, repairing a flange or adapting the waste connection can also change the initial scope.

Ask what is included: supplying the fixture or parts, removing the old equipment, making connections, testing and handling removed items. Specify who will supply the toilet, faucet or sink. An exact model reference helps prepare a useful proposal, but photographs cannot reveal every hidden condition or confirm the final labour required.

Prepare access without taking anything apart

Empty the cabinet below the sink, remove fragile objects and leave a clear route to the fixture. Locate the main shutoff, but avoid operating it if it is difficult to turn. In a shared building, identify who can authorize the work and confirm access to mechanical areas, parking arrangements and permitted work hours.

If you rent, promptly notify the owner or property manager about the leak. For business premises, explain any constraints on washroom use. Fixture and part availability, along with the ability to shut off the water, shape the visit. Do not assume a guaranteed restoration time before the installation has been assessed.

A replacement in place or a larger renovation?

Moving a toilet, adding a basin or changing a bathroom layout involves more than exchanging a fixture. Supply and waste routes, venting, access and other trades need coordination. Our renovation plumbing service covers that planning. The guide to preparing kitchen or bathroom plumbing work helps you gather the information needed before final product choices.

Municipal steps depend on the address and actual work. Montréal’s plumbing and sewer authorization information directs you to borough procedures when a project affects service connections or requires municipal involvement. This general information does not mean every faucet replacement requires a permit. Outside Montréal, check with the relevant municipality.

Questions about toilet and fixture services

Can I buy the toilet or faucet myself?

Yes. Tell us before the visit and send the brand, model number and technical sheet. Compatibility, included accessories and the condition of the existing connections still need checking. Keep the packaging and manufacturer documents until the installation checks are complete.

Does a leaking toilet always need replacing?

No. An internal mechanism leak can sometimes be repaired with a suitable component. Cracked porcelain, a defective mounting and a blockage involve different work. The assessment establishes what needs repairing or replacing rather than assuming a new toilet is the answer.

Can you replace a sink without replacing the whole counter?

It depends on the opening, mounting method, support and dimensions of the new sink. Send measurements and photos before purchasing. Any countertop or cabinet modification needs to be identified and coordinated separately from the plumbing work.

Is a leak urgent if the water stays inside the bowl?

Internal leakage deserves attention even without visible damage. Urgency increases when water reaches the floor, the leak cannot be isolated or no usable toilet remains. Explain those conditions when calling so the situation can be assessed.
